Most Overpaid NBA Players....

My buddy Max just did a brief post mentioning how 3 of the Knicks players are on ESPN.com's list of the 10 most overpaid players. (salary for 2004-05)

ESPN.com's list:
10. Keith Van Horn ($14,487,000)
9. Jalen Rose ($14,487,000)
8. Tim Thomas ($12,900,000)
7. Antonio Davis ($12,925,000)
6. Dale Davis ($10,068,750)
5. Anfernee Hardaway ($14,625,000)
4. Allan Houston ($17,531,250)
3. Dikembe Mutombo ($18,760,000)
2. Brian Grant ($13,233,434)
1. Latrell Sprewell ($14,625,000)

I disagree with Sprewell being ranked #1. He's the most productive guy on that list. I think his reputation, mainly his comment "I've got a family to feed", and that his numbers have dropped off this year are what earned him the #1 ranking.

How about Chris Webber ($17,531,000) who can't carry his team to the Finals?
of Shareef Abdur-Rahim ($14,625,000)?
Austin Croshere ($8,260,000)?

Agreed, Joey. Mutombo has to be the most overpaid on that list (if it's viewed as value / salary).

Croshere is a good look, Daff. But Chris Webber? He's one of the best forwards in the league. He would start for any team in the league if he were traded. Isn't he an all-star this year?

He's not as good as Duncan, and if he gets paid more than Duncan it could be seen as unfair. But to put him in the same ballpark as these scrubs on this list isn't fair.

There is a lot of Chris Webber bashing that goes on and I think it's unfounded. Like, Chris Webber plays scared or this or that. True, he hasn't proven he's a champion yet, and he might never do that. But he is a very good NBA player, in my opinion. He could play defense a little harder.

I agree - I was too harsh on Webber. He's a very solid player. But I still think he's overpaid. Then again, I think pro atheletes in general are overpaid. But to specifically to Webber, he gets paid too much to not bring a championship.

Kenyon Martin is in the same category. While not as talented as Webber, there's no way he deserves a maxed out contract.

how come Penny Hardaway doesn't get mentioned as the #1 over-priced player!? This guy can't even start for a team heading to the lottery.
