VHS vs Beta....

Way back in the day there was a bit of a technological war between two versions of tape. Beta and VHS. Obviously VHS won and was and is still being used to this day. Now there is a war developing between Blu-ray and HD-DVD. Two newer formats of DVDs that display movies in high definition. This one doesn't look one format will win over the other because some very large companies have sided with each and there's no way those companies will concede defeat and switch over everything to the other side. Why did I bring this up?

Because I don't think it's going to matter in a few years anyway. Flash drives seem to be increasing in size at a pretty quick rate and will probably catch up in capacity to dvds. This is just my common sense speaking out here. Flash drives are smaller than dvds - a big positive if you have a large library of movies and need to find room to store it. There are also no moving parts in a machine that reads flash drives. So wouldn't a machine used to play movies from a flash drive be less prone to breaking than a dvd player? Along that same line of thinking - no skipping if you're watching a movie in the car and you hit a bump.

Of course, since this is not based on anything except for some random thoughts I had on my way home from work yesterday, I could be way off and wind up laughing at my prediction 5 years from now when I'm reading this.
