Knicks Trade Deadline Deals (Cont.)....

This paragraph from Chris Mannix' "Inside the NBA" column for sportsillustrated.com best sums up my thoughts on the two deals that the Knicks made last week:

"So the Knicks moved their only legitimate post presence (at least defensively) in Mohammed and got back two power forwards (bringing their grand total on their active roster to five) with two of the worst contracts in the NBA today. Taylor is due $18 million over the next two seasons while Rose is being paid $27.3 million over the next four years. Both contracts were viewed as albatrosses around the necks of their respective teams; however, those huge deals now look meager in comparison to the millions the Knicks are handing out."

Even after having a few days to mull over the trades, I still feel that the Knicks did nothing to help the club. Some folks say that they picked up 2 first round draft picks, but those draft picks are from the Spurs and the Suns and will definitely be in the last 5 spots of the round.

There was definitely no up side to either of the deals, so why did Isiah do it?

Getting Carried Away....

TRENTON, New Jersey (AP) -- Animal rights activists are disgusted by a new candy from Kraft Foods Inc. that's shaped like critters run over by cars -- complete
with tire treads.

The fruity-flavored Trolli Road Kill Gummi Candy -- in
shapes of partly flattened snakes, chickens and squirrels -- fosters cruelty
toward animals, according to the New Jersey Society for the Prevention of
Cruelty to Animals.

"It sends the wrong message to children, that it's OK to
harm animals. And that's the wrong message, especially from a so-called
wholesome corporation like Kraft," said society spokesman Matthew Stanton.

Mister Stanton, can you tell me the correct way to eat a chocolate Easter bunny rabbit? Should we not tell our kids to eat the ears first? Are we encouraging them to go out and start biting the ears of the local rabbits, squirrels, etc.?

Give me a break....

Exactly What The Knicks Needed.....

More power forwards.

They have reportedly traded Nazr Mohammed and Jamison Brewer to the Spurs for Malik Rose and a first round pick.

They also traded Vin Baker and Moochie Norris to the Rockets for Maurice Taylor and a first round pick.

Hey Isiah - how about not trading away your only legitimate center?

What was he thinking? On the positive side, he got 2 first round picks back in return. A move finally done to help out in the long run. Although he took on longer contracts for more money than what he gave up.

Can't wait to see what Mike Lupica has to say about this in tomorrow's Daily News.

UPDATE:
Glad to see everyone's in agreement. I haven't found one person who agrees with Isiah's trades (except for fans of Houston and San Antonio)

The Real Life Billy Hoyle....

Has everyone seen "White Men Can't Jump"? I'm pretty sure everyone has. I grew another step closer to becoming Billy Hoyle last night. Aside from the obvious characteristics, I'm white and can't jump, here's the scene that played out last night at my house.....

Jennie and I are laying in bed watching tv. Jennie's turns to me and tells me, "I hate my job." My thought process was, "well, she's a smart gal. plenty of experience in her field of work. she hates her job. it would make sense to find a new job that would make her happy". So I said to her, "So let's find you a new job". Seemed like a reasonable response to me. She then got pissed at me and hit me on the arm. "You're not supposed to say that. You're supposed to say 'Why do you hate your job? What happened at work today?'" she said.

And for those of you who remember the scene in "White Men Can't Jump" when Gloria (Rosie Perez) tells Billy (Woody Harrelson) "My mouth is dry, I'm thirsty." Billy then proceeds to get up and get her a glass of water. She then flips out on him for getting her the water and not empathizing with her.

So I guess my correct response to Jennie's statement should have been: "I understand. I too have experienced job hateness."

What A Romantic....

This past Friday (the 18th) was our 5th wedding anniversary. According to customs, the 5th annivsersary gift is wood. So I decided to take Jennie out for dinner and a show.
What does dinner and a show have to do with wood you ask?

As you can see, some of the props were made of wood. (That's the best excuse I could come up with)

We went to Medieval Times in Lyndhurst, NJ. For those of you who haven't been there, you should. It was a very nice experience, lots of fun, and good food.

Just a couple of words of caution:

1. You are 'transported' back into the middle ages for the dinner/show. So be prepared to eat your food without utensils.

2. Buyer beware! If the bartender asks you if you'd like a souvenir glass, don't do it. I walked up to the bar and ordered a Coors Light and a Long Island Iced Tea. The bartender asked if I wanted any of the souvenier glasses/mugs she had on display, and I thought "sure, why not. it'll be a good memento of the evening". Bartender comes back with the drinks and the total - $45.00. Granted, the glass was so big that even I could finish the iced tea. But, damn! $45.00 is a lot.

Too Much Brotherly Love....

Here are the boys with their baby sister (1 month old)

Here are the boys with their little sister (3 months old)

The poor thing is in for quite a childhood!!!!

Trivial Knowledge....

For the first time ever, my trivial knowledge of NBA facts have come to be of good use. If you remember, back in December I did a post about Shaq, Mourning, and Laettner being on the same team. I just read an article today on ESPN.com about the Heat signing Mourning which stated:
"If Mourning plays for the Heat this season, Miami will become the first
team ever to have three players play for one team in a season who were
selected 1-2-3 overall from one draft. In 1992, O'Neal, Mourning and
Christian Laettner went 1-2-3."

What this means, I don't know. Just wanted to pat mysef on the back.

Now, THAT Takes Balls....

Geoff Huish, 26, a huge fan of rugby, was so convinced that England would beat Wales in Saturday's match, that he bet his own manhood. "If Wales win I'll cut my balls off". To make a long story short - he better hope his parents weren't looking forward to being grandparents.

Most Overpaid NBA Players....

My buddy Max just did a brief post mentioning how 3 of the Knicks players are on ESPN.com's list of the 10 most overpaid players. (salary for 2004-05)

ESPN.com's list:
10. Keith Van Horn ($14,487,000)
9. Jalen Rose ($14,487,000)
8. Tim Thomas ($12,900,000)
7. Antonio Davis ($12,925,000)
6. Dale Davis ($10,068,750)
5. Anfernee Hardaway ($14,625,000)
4. Allan Houston ($17,531,250)
3. Dikembe Mutombo ($18,760,000)
2. Brian Grant ($13,233,434)
1. Latrell Sprewell ($14,625,000)

I disagree with Sprewell being ranked #1. He's the most productive guy on that list. I think his reputation, mainly his comment "I've got a family to feed", and that his numbers have dropped off this year are what earned him the #1 ranking.

How about Chris Webber ($17,531,000) who can't carry his team to the Finals?
of Shareef Abdur-Rahim ($14,625,000)?
Austin Croshere ($8,260,000)?

Mistaken Identity, Part 2....

For my loyal readers, you'll remember the post I did back in Decemeber about some girl who sent me an instant message who thought I was some other Matt Dabney. Well, after adding her to my 'Blocked Users' list on AIM, she changed her screen name to emilyfrierson012 and has written me again. Unfortunately I didn't save the transcript of the conversation to share with you all here, but she did send me her picture after I refused to send her mine.

What Ever Happened To Ken?....

When Barbie and Ken broke up in February of last year, the world was stunned. "What happened?" we asked ourselves. This was supposed to be a match made in heaven. They've been together for 43 years. What's next? The Red Sox are gonna win the world series?

But seriously now, Ken had a higher purpose in life. He enlisted in the army and when off to fight in Iraq. His plan backfired. Iraqi militants claimed in a Web statement Tuesday to have taken an American soldier hostage and threatened to behead him in 72 hours unless the Americans release Iraqi prisoners. Here is the picture of the supposed hostage:

The prisoner was not identified until now......

UPDATE - Looks like I got the scoop before CNN did. Here's their story on it.
